Signs Your Brakes Need Maintenance

posted on

When your brakes fail the outcome will usually be an accident. I don’t want you to experience this unfortunate situation. Neglecting your brakes can have consequences that can put you in danger. Ignoring brake problems can also cost you time and money at the repair shop.

How Do Your Brakes Work?Brake Repair Tips in Texas

Your brakes use friction to slow you down, which means parts are constantly rubbing against other parts. In fact, your brake pads are designed to wear down over time and are meant to be replaced. That means that no matter how well you take care of your car or how you drive, brake components have a limited lifespan.

When your pads get thin, a small strip of metal will start to rub on your rotors making a high pitched squealing sound. So when you hear this don't ignore it, have your brakes checked and serviced.

If you choose to ignore this high pitched squeal the next sound you will hear is a grinding sound. At this point, the pad has gotten so thin that the rivets are cutting into your rotors. Not only is this unsafe, it will also lead to some major auto repair costs.

Signs You Need Brake Maintenance

You may not even notice your stopping distances getting longer. But this is the first sign that your brakes need attention.  A worn set of brakes can take as much as sixty extra feet to stop your car.

Make sure you also pay attention to the following signs:

  • Having to pump your brakes to stop efficiently
  • Pulling left or right when braking
  • Pulsation in your brake pedal when slowing
  • An anti-lock or brake warning light
  • You've had to top off your brake fluid reservoir more than usual

If you have any of these symptoms, make sure your next stop is at Pueblo Tire & Service. Your safety should be your first priority and any of these things can be a warning of brake failure. Take the time to visit our shop and set up a maintenance plan that will keep your vehicle ready to stop every time you need it to.
