Here's the scenario: You just purchased new tires from Pueblo Tires & Service (smart choice), but now you're not so certain what you should be doing when it comes to routine care. Well, there's no need to get yourself in a twist. This tire care guide will give you step-by-step instructions on how to keep your tires in top condition, so they keep rolling along longer.
Step 1: Check Your Tire Pressure: Your tires need the right amount of air pressure to perform at their best. Grab a tire pressure gauge (you can find 'em at any local store) and check the pressure at least once a month. Look for the recommended pressure level in your vehicle's manual or on a sticker on the inside of the driver's side door. If the pressure is too low, you can find an air pump at most gas stations to give them a little boost. Remember to check the pressure when your tires are cold (that means the vehicle hasn't been driving for awhile) for the most accurate reading.
Step 2: Inspect Your Tread Depth: A good pair of boots needs a strong sole, and the same goes for your tires. The tread is what gives your tires traction on the road, especially when things get a little wet. Tires have wear bars that will let you know when they reach 2/32" but it's best to get into the practice of replacing them before they hit that minimum. You can purchase a tread depth gauge relatively cheap to measure your tires. In a pinch, you can use what's known as the penny test to get an idea of your tread level. For this test, grab a a penny and place it upside down into the tread groove, with Abe Lincoln's head facing you. If you can see the top of Abe's head, it's time to replace the tires. If the tread depth is still good, keep an eye out for uneven wear or bulges that indicate alignment or suspension issues. Hint: If you're not sure, our friendly tire team at Pueblo Tires & Service can give you a hand!
Step 3: Rotate Tires Regularly: Just like two-stepping, tires need a good rotation every now and then. This helps ensure even wear on all four tires, extending their lifespan and improving performance. Most manufacturers recommend rotating your tires every 5,000 to 7,000 miles, but be sure to check the specific interval for your tires and vehicle.
Step 4: Keep Those Tires Clean: Now, you don't have to give your tires a bubble bath, but a little cleaning can go a long way. Road grime, dirt, and brake dust can build up on your tires, making them look dull and, well, not as spiffy as the day your bought them (you remember that day, because you got a great deal on tires at Pueblo Tires & Service). Grab a mild soap, water, and a soft brush or sponge, and give your tires a gentle scrub. Rinse them off and give 'em a good dry with a clean towel. It'll save time to do this when you're washing the rest of your vehicle, which is also something you should make a habit.
Step 5: Inspect Your Tires Regularly: Even with all these preventive measures, it's a good idea to have your tires inspected by a professional. Our Pueblo Tires & Service locations across South Texas are here to lend a hand. We'll check the overall condition, alignment, and balance of your tires to ensure they're in tip-top shape. We can also help you find the right tires for your vehicle when it's time for a change.
By following these simple tire care steps, you'll be hitting the road with confidence, knowing your tires are ready for the journey. So, buckle up and enjoy the ride with tires that are ready to take you wherever you desire.
